There are lots of slow cooker accessories that will make your life so much easier. This guide will take you through some of my favorite accessories.
You will find that while some accessories will make your life easier, others are just a bit of a gimmick. For me, this list pretty much sums up quite a few useful tools that will make your life easier when it comes to slow cooking.
If you have some suggestions, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment at the bottom of this page. I love to hear about other slow cooker accessories that you’re able to get.

1. Oven Mitts
Slow cookers and crock pots will get very hot after hours of cooking, so when you go to remove the pot it can be quite tricky to do so without burning yourself.
It’s in these hot situations where a good pair of oven mitts come in handy. You can easily remove the pot from the slow cooker and then place it on the table, so people can dig in and enjoy.
2. Slow Cooker Liners
Liners are fantastic for keeping your slow cooker clean, but they do have some pros and cons. If you find yourself very time-limited or unable to clean, then a slow cooker liner is the perfect solution.
Make sure you buy quality liners to avoid ending up with non-regulated liners that may leach chemicals into your food. Reynolds has become a pretty well-respected brand for slow cooker liners.
3. Microwavable Food Containers
Microwavable food containers are a great way to store any slow cooker leftovers. You can reuse these, so they’re great if you want to reduce waste but keep leftovers nice and tidy in the fridge.
One of the best things that I like about food containers is that you can just grab them out of the fridge and reheat the food in them. They’re also perfect if you want to take food to work without it spilling and making a mess in your bag.

4. Wire Rack
A wire rack might sound like a weird accessory to have for the slow cooker, but it comes in handy for quite a few different types of dishes. One of the trickiest parts is finding a wire rack that will fit your slow cooker.
A good wire rack is perfect when you need to lift something off the bottom of your slow cooker or Crock pot. It can include meals such as whole chicken, custards, roasts, and basically any other dish where you want a bit of separation from the heat source.
5. Slow Cooker Lid Lock
This kit will allow you to lock the lid in place for the slow cooker. It allows you to easily pick up and move the slow cooker without having the lid fall off. It’s perfect if you find yourself regularly on the move with your crock pot or slow cooker.
The design of these is for most types of slow cooker or crock pot. For a specially designed version for the crock pot, be sure to check out the Crock-it Lock-it.
6. Canning Kit
Out of all the slow cooker accessories, a canning kit is probably the least required. It does come in handy when you’re trying to do preserves in the slow cooker.
A canning kit will allow you to preserve your slow-cooked jams and other preserves easily. I purchased a canning kit for the apple butter I whipped up in the slow cooker.
7. Carry Bag
A carry bag is another excellent solution if you’re someone who needs to move their slow cooker around a lot. You can get different sized bags so that you can fit your slow cooker or Crock pot easily.
A decent carry bag is also insulated so you can ensure that your meal keeps warm on the journey it’s about to take.
8. Shredder Claws
Some shredder claws are perfect if you want to shred your meat in style. They’re super easy to use and saves you the headache of using forks. These are also great for picking up meat out of the slow cooker and moving it.
There are tons of cheap shredder claws on the market, but if you want the best experience, then I suggest spending a little bit more. The cheap ones are often hollow and don’t do a great job of shredding.
I hope this handy list of slow cooker accessories will help you decide if you need any extras for your slow cooker or crock pot. If you have a helpful accessory that you can’t live without, then be sure to mention it in the comments right below.
I am very elderly but very fit generally. However some marks of age poor eyesight, poor grip, limited liability.
This site has answered every need I could do with now I have my very good slow cooker.
Oven mitts, of course slow cooker lock really vital, and shredder claws what an ingenious gadget. Plus the tip about thickening and amount of liquid. Not to mention the recipes, but I am only one person so I can adapt.
Thank you so much
Loving all your recipes and trying them out slowly. You often use cup measures and I’m not very confident with that – can you tell me are these American cup measures? Thank you
Hi Jan,
The cup measurements are Australian cup measurements. There isn’t a massive difference between the two so you should be safe not making any adjustments. I try to only use cup measurements for items where an accurate measurement isn’t essential.
Looking for pullout rack to keep veg and meat up out of liquid grease. Would rest about 2/3 way down in pot and have handles.
Me, too!! Have you found one??
